Chicago’s Green City Market

The Green City Market is Chicago’s pioneering effort to connect local sustainable farmers and food artisans with urban shoppers, chefs and restaurateurs. Alice Waters proclaimed the Green City Market “…the best sustainable effort in the country.” Sustainable is the key word.

The Market supports local farmers who take care of the land by providing a bustling marketplace for their locally raised, sustainable/organic products in the metropolitan Chicago area. That includes certified organic farmers, farmers who grow organically but are not certified, and sustainable growers who use practices like IPM-integrated pest management – to reduce their use of chemicals and pesticides. The Market offers “food you can trust,” foods that are locally grown with concern for preserving the environment, foods that are totally delicious and foods that are good for you.
